buttons scrambly

I have this problem with all of my Sonic Foundry programs: sometimes the buttons on the interface don't show up! They just look black or scrambled. I can "mouse over" to see what button it is. And, they still function, so it's not the end of the world. I'd just like to fix it if someone knows how. I have tried deleting then reinstalling, but that didnt work. This happens no matter what machine I install the stuff on.

Help?

Thanks!

I can't say I ever had that problem with VF2.

What are your system specs, especially:
Motherboard (does it use a VIA chipset?)
Graphics Card (include driver revision)

I too have this problem. The strange thing is sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn't. This leads me to believe that it may be a conflict with other software I'm running. I haven't investigated it fully though.

I also have Eudora Pro (an email app) that has the same problem. I have a Rage 128 Pro (which I'm going to look into a driver update) and for a motherboard...I'm not sure. I never remember how to check for that...bootup? Please let me know and I'd be happy to get it for you.

I love ATI because they usually deliver relatively good performance at a good price. However, even I must admit the Rage 128 is not a good chip (don't upgrade yet, tho'. ATI is releasing two new chips, the 7500 and the 8500 in September).

Here's some Rage128 advice.
Disclaimers:
(1) Bear in mind that I don't actually own a Rage128, I own an ancient Rage Pro.
(2) This advice is for Win 9x/Me.

People seem to agree that the best Win9x driver for the Rage 128 is 4.12.6292. Download them at:

http://support.ati.com/products/pc/rage128pro/win98/rage128pro_win98_drivers_vfw.html

ATI has had a icon corruption issues that pops up now and again. It is fairly easy to solve.

Open your C:\windows\system.ini file in Notepad and add the following:

[display]
DEVBMP=0

If you already have a [display] section in you system.ini, just add the DEVBMP=0 part to the bottom of that section.

Check out the Rage128 tweaker at:

http://www.rageunderground.com/r128tweaker.shtml

Finally, to check out what motherboard chipset you have, that information is usually printed at the bottom of your screen at bootup time.

I solved this problem by using the newest DirectX version but used the second newest ATI driver.

It was difficult to find the right combo.

Thanks Folks!
I do use an ATI 128 card, so I followed discdude's directions and d/l'ed the driver he mentioned on the link and that fixed it!

Thanks !! Discdude for the pointer. VF guru pointed me to your reply
of 8/20/2001 9:51:20 and that fixed my crash problems.
Keep up the good work!
