You mean passthrough. Normally you plug the analog cables into the input and then the signal is digitized and output over the 1394 port. Of course the camera must be turned on.

Sometimes you have to set something in the DV camera's menus. Read the manual. Occassionally the camera isn't capale of doing passthrough conversion at all. That's bad luck.

I'm pretty sure the TRV103 can't do analog capture -- you have to copy it to a tape. At least, that's true with my TRV110.

As to the VX1000, I dunno. My VX2000 will do analog capture, but I have to go to the camera menu and set DV-out appropriately (that is, set it to the opposite mode as when using it to show firewire output on my monitor).
