Cadence problem

My source media is 1440x1080i29.97 HDV. I'm rendering to 720p59.94. The playback has a strange speeding up and slowing down cadence which I can't explain. It happens whether the project properties are 1080i or 720p. The de-interlace looks good (interpolated, not blended).

A person walking, for instance, looks in the source media like:
step - - step - - step - - step - - step - - step - - step - - step -
While in the render it looks like
step-step-step - - - step-step-step - - - step-step-step - - -

Any hints?

What format is the 720p you output, Chris? Try outputting an MP4, which plays much more efficiently than a number of HD formats.

Also, what program are you using to play back this file? I always recommend the wonderful, free VLC Media Player -- particularly over the Windows Media Player -- for playing anything but WMV files.

If you've output an MP4 and even VLC Player can't play the file smoothly, it could be that your hardware specs just aren't up to playing a 60p video. But that's hard to say without know your computer's hardware and OS specs.
