Make sure under Options - Preferences - Video Device that you have OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 selected.

I have had a couple of issues with that camcorder being detected on my system. Make sure it is connected to your firewire when you first boot the computer. Open Vegas and turn the camera on, then go into the capture program. I have found these things help.

1 What version of windows?
2 With out starting capture program plug in cam, does windows see it?
3 Is the camera new or used?
4 Might have bad cable.

Ditto the bad cable advice. My cam connection started giving me problems. Since I'm the only who ever handles my stuff, I placed "bad cable" at the bottom of my list of possible culprits.

But, cable it was. Bought a new one, problem gone.

On my system, the cam would not be recognized when I opened vidcap. V5 would hang, then lock up my 'puter requireing a reboot to recover.

If I established a connection, it would be broken if I touched the cam during capture or print-to-tape.

New cable solved all of that.

If your cable is already new (not to say a new one might not be bad), perhaps there are other issues.
