Camera Noise, please help

Hey, i have a broadcasting assignment due on monday, it's a talk show and i'm interview clones of me. Anyways i'm using a cheap sony digital8 camcorder. The mic is right near were the tape is being ran and i get that annoying shh....noise. How can i get rid of it? Like noise reduction thing? Are there any free noise reduction tools? Anyways thanks

Unless I am misunderstanding you , you didn't record it yet so eliminating it before you shoot is always preferable to noise reduction software.
If the mike is near a tape recorder I am assuming you are using a remote mike.
Put the mike above the speaker just out of camera range. A makeshift boom pole from a painter's pole will work, but you should have someone hold it. A shotgun mike is best, but use what you have.

Hey, no your are misunderstanding. but thanks, that will come in handy when i get some money and a good camera.

ok heres my problem. The camera i have dosn't allow remote mics, its a built in one and it's like right next to the tape. I can't fix that. Now i've already shot it and need noise reduction. (but craftech helped with that). So any other softwares for noise reduction of that hissing noise would be appreciated. Thanks

K, i'm pretty sure i've seen a free noise reduction plug-in or tool somewhere. Can anybody think of one? Sorry for buggin you guys so much...the hissing noise is just so annoying. Thanks again

Craftec gave a link to audacity above - don't know that software, but the Sony NR is pretty good, but not free.

Have you tried tweaking the EQ to try and isolate and reduce the hiss frequency?
