Camera snapshot effect from video

I watched a sample video someone made on Chienworks website where they showed live video of people, then had a camera "click" sound effect, the video froze for a few seconds and they turned the image B&W.

How do you make the video "freeze" for a while? I thought maybe either shift or ctrl then drag the end of the video clip, but that's not doing it.

Or did they just "save" a jpg of the last frame then show that?

Saving the frame as a still image and then dropping it on the timeline is the easiest way to accomplish this. You should set the preview window to "Best/Full" or "display at project size" (depending on the version of Vegas you are using) before saving the image to retain as much quality and resolution as possible.

Thanks for the tips, I tried it by saving the last frame, dropping the saturation to about -75 to give it a sorta B&W camera effect and it came out pretty cool.

I had always used the "Best/Auto" preview, but the "Best/Full" does look a little better, so I'll try that out a bit.

Also, I just googled for "camera click" sounds and found one that was pretty good. (there wasn't a single camera click sound in the 1,001 Sony sound effects...)

Edit: If anyone hasn't tried this effect, give it a shot, it gives your video a little life somehow, and it's pretty fun. Oh, and thanks to whoever made that video that gave me this idea, can't remember who it was, and of course thanks to Chienworks for hosting the vids!
