Can anyone suggest a DVD burner?

I got Vegas video 4 + DVD mainly to edit miniDV home/educational movies and mix them in 5.1 and then burn to a DVD that I can play in my pioneer DVD player.
There are a few different types of burners like -RW, +RW, -RAM, etc..
What type of burner would suit my needs and anyone have a brand that has had good success?
What about Firewire burners? What are the pros/cons beside the price. I'd like to just replace my CD-RW drive with a DVD reader/burner..so what about it..anyone have any input? Thanks
Todd

Pioneer A05 very solid burner. Works well with Vegas.

I'd also recommend Pioneer A05 writer. I'm using an external version (USB 2.0 hookup)and, in spite of using it on USB 1 port, have yet to have a coaster. My guess is that FireWire version would work just as fine. This is DVD-R/RW burner, and it does not support any other format (such as DVD+R/RW). In principle, you'd want to go with DVD-R format, because it offers the greatest compatibility in terms of standalone DVD players, and it is the format officially sanctioned by DVD Forum (DVD+R is not). Hope this helps.

Okay all you Pioneer A05 users, if any of you have PowerDVD XL v4 in your XP computers are you finding any problems with menus locking up or error messages telling you your DVDs are damaged or dirty?

I too have the wonderful A05 and it does work great with DVDA 1.0b, only I find that if I burn with DVDA (which I'd prefer to do), instead of RecordNow Max 4.5, I have probs with PowerDVD and my DVDs (standalones work fine).

Also, this is with Pioneer 2x DVD-RWs...

Thanks!

I use Ulead DVD workshop that cames with my Pioneer A05. no problems. I don't like to use DVDA untill DVDA supports more menu functions. maybe next version? I hope.

I use the Sony DRU500a and love it but the software that came with it conflicted with DVDA so I never used it.

I do not own any of these but I will buy one of them since they both support DVD-R. DVD-RW, DVD+R & DVD+RW. Nec is available in may and cheaper than the Sony.

Sony DRU500, http://www.storagebysony.com/cd-rw/category.asp?id=2
NEC ND 1300, http://www.nec.co.uk/ND1300A.asp

Sony DRU500A works great, both in DVD-R(W) and DVD+R(W).

Those who have to do some tests with RW disks first will find the +RW better option since writting is (much) faster in +RW format.
Just try to burn a 1Mb file in -RW... will take a lifetime!

I still use -R to burn final DVD's as they're cheaper and they are "as compatible" as +R.
