Can I adjust audio levels of a video clip?

I have inserted a video clip from my camera into a Vegas project. It contains some speech, but the sound level is so low that it can hardly be heard. There is no purple line to adjust as there is to adjust an audio track. Is there any way that I can increase the sound level of the track for this clip only?

Have you tried Normalizing the Audio Gain?

Right-click on the audio event and select Normalize from the Switches.

It worked! Many thanks for pointing the way.

Whilst this may "fix" OPs needs it does beg the Q as to what is wrong with the on-camera audio.

Is OP too far away, perhaps? Get in close is a good rule (so much for mega-zooms!).
Or he could try one of those Sony digital SDHC recorders - with an assistant slipping past the crowd (say) to get nearer the action . . then replace the camcorder bits with the field-mic stuff, etc.

Buying the Production Suite would give OP SoundForge which can be used to "adjust" the audio - I use mine regularly mainly so I don't accidently wreck a video project . . . As Vegas Studio only lists the last few "saved" titles, if I'm adjusting a dozen audio clips the video projects would be lost. Maybe VS should ask if I want to add a project to Recent-list . . . that would be neat, eh?
