Can I apply all events and their attributes to another upload

New to Vegas, BUT LOVING IT. I picked up the basics really fast, but got myself in a jam.

I edited a project for 26 hours. Realizing when finished that the converter I used before even beginning the project in vegas was set to a lower quality. 1080 resolution but somehow it was compressed and missing like 40 gigs. (bitrate I think) The result is artifacts and choppiness.

I decided to then import the correct video. In a sense the sources for these videos are identical in length and content. One has lower quality bitrate and is completed. The other has no audio but is the source master.

My question is, since the sources are basically the same and both still exist on the hard drive. Can I apply all my work to my imported high bitrate master?

I tried copying and pasting the event attributes, but it did nothing. Am I going about this wrong?

Also you have my newb apologies for perhaps using incorrect terminology or not searching well enough in the forums. I did search quite a bit. Thats how I got as far as I did.

You can have multiple instances of Vegas open and copy and paste event attributes from one open instance of Vegas to another.

If your source file is already cut up into numerous events then you can alternatively do this:

  1. Copy your project
  2. Rename your source media
  3. Open the new project
  4. When it prompts for your offline media, choose "Specify a new location or replacement file" and replace the "bad" media with the "good" media.

What format was your source media and how was it created?

Why did you convert it and how did you convert it?

WOW, ok, thats close!

Why did I convert it? I was having trouble removing a descriptive audio track. It occurred to me that it was embedded in the content. I was able to separate them (all audio tracks) out with Handbrake, and create an .m4v file. I used this audio and video to create my finished product. The master source content (with descriptive audio) is an .mt2s.

So now I have exactly what you described and it looks great but my audio track is the one that came with the source master and has the damn descriptive audio. Do you have a followup suggestion?

Thanks in advance Nick. I'm floored.

And, it might have changed to non anamorphic somehow?

You can use the audio from one file and the video from the other. Just get them both on the timeline, synced correctly, and mute or delete the tracks you don't want. To achieve this you will have to do some copying and pasting between the old project with the bad video and your new project with the good video.

You can change non-anamorphic to anamorphic with the pixel aspect ratio in your project settings.

Yep! I got the audio worked out! Thank you again for saving me so much time. As you can see this is a purely non professional project, but I'm enjoying a new winter hobby.

So I adjusted the PAR as far as I could but still cant get rid of my non anamorphic black bars. The picture on the right is the EXACT same source. The one on the left was simply opened the way you suggested in order to preserve all my events.

I think figured it out. I may have a non anamorphic copy, but I see on the boards that I can change that when I render. In the mean time I did a bit of pulling an stretching to make sure the project always previews the same.

Thank you for your help. I'm glad the software was able to do what I wanted, but a little stunned that it could. I cant think of a good reason why anyone would want to do what I did. Lost data maybe?
