Can I burn a short clip to CDRW.......

I have a short clip from a project that I would like to burn to a CDRW. I tried rendering the short clip as a .wmv, .avi, .rm, .mpeg1. I already wasted four CD's and still not able to get the short clip to play. Am I missing a step? What am I doing wrong? Help!!!! I used Nero burning rom software to do it. Thanks for the input guys.

Tim.

Also, if I am able to do this on a CDRW, how long can the clip be?

CDRWs can't be played until they are closed - and then you can't RW them anymore.

Cool!!!! Thanks!!! Curiosity question, do you know what format it is using?? Also can it be played on all PC's?

Eh? Surely you erase them and start again?

Absolutely! Any PC with DVD software (and probably a DVD-ROM as a requirement for the software--depending on the manufacturer of the software and version) should be able to read and play it. (PowerDVD does I know)

Normally I just throw it into my DVD player in my back room to see how the NSTC colours and the timing of the clip feel (there is a difference between how a movie watches in front of a computer and on a couch in a living room)

For everything you've ever wanted to know about VCD (also SVCD and DVD) check out www.dvdrhelp.com

The VCD is mpeg1 encoded and 352 x 240 frame size (NTSC) with 41kHz sound. You can put 70+ minutes on a CD-RW and of course you can erase them.

There is huge variation in set top players ability to play non-DVD formats. The site I mentioned has extensive lists of which players play which formats. To play a VCD on a computer, it helps to have DVD software. You don't need a DVD drive as the disk can be read by a regular CD-ROM drive. So you can load PowerDVD as a player, and watch VCDs, SVCDs, and mini-DVDs on a computer without a DVD drive.

If you don't want to load DVD software, you can go to the media file on the disk, and play it with media player. If the file is an SVCD or DVD format, you need an mpeg2 codec on the computer.

You can burn whatever you want to a CDRW, and if it'll play on your PC, should play on your PC from the CDRW as well - just burn as a data CD, then using windows explorer double click on the file. Optionally for PC playback you can add autorun instructions in an autorun.inf file, or go with one of the auto launching prog. at digital-digest.com or doom9.org.

FWIW, you can close a CDRW and erase it depending on the disc itself and software. If you can find them, higher qual CDRWs burn & possibly read faster, but as you can get a CDR blank for pennies, good CDRW blanks are getting harder to find.

As suggested, if you want your disc viewable with a DVD &/or (S)VCD player, visit dvdrhelp.com. Before you get too involved though, download a sample image from their site and make sure your player can handle them. For the PC codecs like winmedia, real, and DiVX work better, but for a TV you can do an SVCD that's virtually identical in visual quality to a DVD. [that might sound illogical, given the difference in bitrate and frame size, but remember your DVD player is limited by spec to put out a reduced resolution picture]

If you're running Windows, Media Player 9 will play VCDs. I'm not sure about earlier versions.

Seems I was misinformed. Sorry.

Good morning all,

Alliante, I tried what you said here and everything seemed to go well. It went through the render placed it where I wanted it but when I go to the location, all I see is about 5 or 6 folders and I can do nothing with them. I did not burn to the CD because this happened before and that is where i was wasting the CD's. I should have written the folder names down to post them here, maybe that would have been more helpful. I will have to do that when I get home but i figured let me post what happened anyway. Maybe I am missing one simple step. Any ideas??? Thanks again!!
