In order to burn your movies to DVD, they have to be MPEG-2 files.

If I am not mistaken, can't MyDVD take your DV AVI and convert it to MPEG-2? Quality loss should be minimal.

If MyDVD doesn't take AVIs, it is important to note that VF doesn't ship with MPEG-2 support out of the box, you have to buy an additional plug-in (or an external encoder like TMPGenc).

If you render your video in VF as a DV-AVI file, MyDVD will import the file, rerender to MPEG-2, and burn to a DVD on the Sony DVD burner. VF doesn't render to MPEG-2 unless you purchase the additional plug-in, as discdude noted.

when I open VideoFactory I click media properties for the movie and it says format :MPEG-2
I imported the movie from a VHS tape using Creative Labs Movie Blaster as MPEG-2 format
I don’t know what DV-AVI file means?

To create a DV AVI is easy:

1) Click "Make Movie" button.
2) Click "Write Movie to Disk" button.
3) In the format drop down list, select "Video for Windows (*.avi)"
4) In the Template drop down list, select NTSC DV (unless you live in Europe, then you would select PAL DV).
5) The rest should be self explanatory.

To create a MPEG 2 file is similar, just change the format to "MPEG-2" and the template to "DVD NTSC." If you don't already own the MPEG-2 plugin, VF will send you the the Sonic Foundry website so you can purchase it.

Fool that I am, VF will render to MPEG-2. It's just that you cannot customize the template without the additional plug-in. I apologize for the misinformation.

If you can buy the mainconcept std mpeg product then use vf to make a mpeg2 disk file then use my-dvd the picture is better on your tv. Mydvd will just pass mpeg to on to dvd.
