Steve, the problem with this particular situation is that there would be a 2nd person using ( and possibly at the same time as the other person ) Vegas Pro 8.

Here is the information found in the knowledge base.

Can I run my Sony Media Software application on more than one PC?
Answer

Our licensing agreement permits you to install the software on as many machines as you own, as long as you are not running the programs at the same time. For instance, you can install the software on your home machine and on your laptop. You are not allowed to install the software on multiple machines if you are going to be using them simultaneously, such as in a home studio setting. If you are going to run the software concurrently on more than one machine, you would need to purchase a separate license for each computer.

Note that when you install the software on a different computer you will need to complete the registration process again. Register the software as you did the first time to unlock the program on each machine. You can register online directly within the software, via the phone, or on our website through our online form.

Frankly Sony has one of the most liberal licensing policies I have ever seen. My Adobe Audition drives me crazy. Every time I even LOOK the wrong way I have to call Adobe to get re registered. I can't even run a dual boot system without having to call adobe to explain myself. I don't know about FCP but Avid MC has a dongle system... can't use it unless it's plugged in. Avid Liquid has a subroutine built in that scans your network for other copies of liquid and checks their licenses. If you have a copy on another machine (you don't even have to be running it), it shuts down. Even Nero now has a built in system that phones home to check your registration every so often.

It seems everybody has gone license crazy.... EXCEPT.... for Madison

Interestingly enough to the other extreme.... you can't post here unless you have a valid license. I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing.... but it's not the norm.

It wasn't always restricted. A lot of us got in this forum before the valid license was required, and apparently we were "grandfathered in" after the requirement.

I do have to laugh about the number of times people come in here posting about SONY's draconian licensing scheme and how impossible it is. I guess those folks haven't used much other software. They don't realize that SONY's is one of the friendliest and most trouble free in existence.

I agree with that, I can go into my account and see all of my software, SN#'s and even download another copy if I want.

I really should not worry too much about this. You already own two licenses and no more than two users will be using it at any one time.

However, on a slightly different note, I wonder if there is some contention in the license. I have looked through it before, but to be honest, I do not pay much attention to the user rights as they are usually just lines in the sand to protect their rights. I won't let them get in the way of me doing my business. As far as I am concerned my copy is licensed to my business for me and my business partner to work on. We will sometimes edit on one machine while rendering on another. Strictly speaking, I think this is against the terms of the license. It is clearly stupid to expect us to buy a second license for this purpose, so we will not be doing that any time soon.

Tunesmith - I have two licenses for Vegas 6 that are unused and upgradable if you're interested in a budget solution.
