Can I Change Audio Track Default FX?

stevefoobar wrote on 6/15/2010, 12:41 PM
It always annoys me that when I add an audio track, I always get Track Noise Gate, Track EQ, and Track Compressor effects automatically added when I rarely want them. Even worse, they are all enabled, although their presets are set to "(Untitled)" so at least they aren't affecting the audio. I have to always remember to manually delete them.

Isn't there a way to change this default behavior on audio tracks so I get NO effects when I create a new audio track?

I certainly don't get any "automatic" effects when I create a new video track.

Thanks.

So why bother to delete them?

I delete them because:
1. I'm not sure that even unchecked and set to (untitled) they aren't taking up a small amount of computer resources
2. I have a mild case of OCD (like most former or current programmers) and it just isn't "right" for them to be there when I don't want them. :-)

By default, there are three effects on all new audio tracks.

By default, these are all set to DO NOTHING to affect your audio.

So you do NOT need to delete them or turn them off as they're already doing nothing unless you change some settings.

I recommend you experiment with them - you might find you actually WANT to use them. If you really want to get rid of them forever, just delete them, right-click on the track header, and choose "Set Default Track Properties".

Yes, I understand all this. I do sometimes use EQ and occasionally compression but rarely noise gate.

It's just a minor thing that's been annoying me because none of my other software "assumes" it knows what plug-ins you will always want on an audio or video track out-of-the-box.

Thanks for the tip about deleting the plug-ins on an audio track, then selecting "Set Default Track Properties" as this not particularly intuitive. That worked and they are now gone by default.

Thanks!
