Can I force focus on external preview?

Good morning all,
Is there a setting somewhere (maybe in "hidden" prefs) to force the external monitor to not go blue (ie when I do a "render as") ? In some cases I have to turn off/on my DV deck to get it back...is this normal? A new firewire card didn't seem to make a difference.
TIA,
Randy

Aw come on guys, can you at least tell me if this is normal behavior or not (based on your experience)?
Thanks very much,
Randy

Hi Randy. Just checked it on my Vegas 6 system. The external monitor shows the frame at the current timeline position. When I Render As, it doesn't change at all, just keeps showing the same frame. During the render, the monitor window on the PC updates to show the progress.

So, no blue screens here.

One tip, if your monitor window is showing progress during a render you can speed up the render by disabling it in Option. Updating the preview window takes up CPU cycles.
But as to the other issue, my external monitor just holds the last frame output however that might be a function of the external device rather than Vegas itself.
Bob.

I get the same thing with both of my decks but then they are the same brand and model (JVC SR-VS30U). I'll try previewing through a camera (Canon XL1S) and report back if it makes a difference.
Thanks again guys,
Randy

I reckon Bob is right (it being the device). Using the camera, it still goes to blue screen after closing vidcap but after clicking the external monitor icon off and then back on, I get the preview again (I don't have to turn the device on/off). The "render as" goes to blue also but all I have to do is click on the timeline to get it back....good enough for me.
Thanks again guys,
Randy
