Genuine question, I dont want to do anything illegal.

I have vegas studio platinum 8 on a CD with the serial numbers etc. Recently I upgraded to vegas 9 via the internet and downloaded the new software and was sent new serial numbers from sony via e mail. Is it OK now to give somebody the old vegas 8 cd with the original serial numbers for them to use?

This has been done before. You can contact offical sony support for this, and they will un-register your old software. I'm not sure you were entitled to an upgrade price in this situation, but let's have sony worry about that...

Well, if he upgraded from 8 to 9, he was entitled to the upgrade price.

And yes, customer support will help you transfer the version 8 license to another person. They'll invalidate your serial number and issue a new serial number to the other person. No charge.

Note that the person you give the version 8 license to won't be eligible for upgrade pricing from that license.

thanx people, one other Q
the PC this will run on is an AMD 2600xp
750mb ram
Geforce 5200 VGA
100BG HD

Is this powerful enough to run VMS8?

It will run ok, but rendering will take quite some time if you apply heavy effects, and I'd advise to add an external usb drive to the configuration. I used to run it on a portable that didn't even reach your friend's config.
