can I import DVR MS files?

I am using Sony Vegas Platinum 9.0 and I'm trying to edit recorded TV programs that are in the DVR MS format. When I go to import a file into a project, I see DVR MS files listed but when I try to click on one the program stops responding and I have to shut the whole program down. Does this mean that they are not supported files?

Not supported, no. First try changing the dvr-ms extension to .mpg, or .m2t. See if this works. If not, you must transcode the file to another format, e.g. mpeg2, or an intermediate format, like Cineform, Avid DNxHD, or Matrox mpeg2 AVI.
