forgot to say that the ball is not a real ball, it is a .tga image of a ball made in coreldraw.

Use the Light Rays FX, set it to intense light rays, and position the "light source point" to get the effect you need. Adjust sensitivity and strength. Use keyframes to move the source point about if needed.

You have to add the FX to the clip with the ball. When the dialogue for the effect is open you see a little window with a small button in it. This you can move and place where it gives you the best effect. You'll see the effect in the preview window.
