Can I synq all of the audio to a feature length video in Vegas Video?

We are doing the complete sound design for a feature length
movie. Sound fx, follies, ADR (dialog) soundtrack, etc...
We have Pro Tools LE and a small budget. We heard
importing the entire movie into quicktime with PT LE would
be way to hard. We really like Vegas Video on the PC.
But, the big question is can we synq our audio percise
enough for diaolog for an entire feature length video with
Sonic Foundary's Vegas Video? this is at least 1.5 hours
of synq.

We will recieve their cut on a vhs video tape. It seems
like our budget could afford to buy a big PC and Vegas
Video and not the huge upgrade to Pro Tools Mix Plus.
Any help would be appreciated!

Well theorectically, you are suppose to be able to do this. Vegas
allows large Video files, that usually would not be allowed under
windows. I'm currently working on doing exactly what you are doing
for a 30 minute short movie. I just finished a 2.5 minute trailer
for it using Vegas and an AVI file and it worked perfectly. They
haven't finished editing the final 30 minute version, so I'm not able
to tell you anything more than that.

Also, I'm not much of a Video person, but if your reference is coming
off of VHS and being loaded into Vegas, it isn't gonna be "frame
accurate" is it? There's no real timecode reference and VHS I
imagine would play at different speeds, depending on the machine.
Maybe you should have them layoff some Smpte timecode along with that
VHS just so you have a timecode sync track? Or better yet, have the
video editor create you an AVI file right from the editor and save it
on the hard drive and bring the hard drive in to you. That way
you're certain to have "frame accurate" sync......just some
suggestions.

I am just about finished with a 85 minute rockumentary project which
includes everything you can think of and have had no problems with
sync what so ever. I work with up to 16 minute clips at a time (the
Win98 4GB barrier) and am mastering to DV Tape as I go...

I use Vegas Pro regularly for some but not all of my work as a
supervising sound editor/designer for long form episodic TV work.
Our series ("Seven Days") is around 45 mins RT. A few suggestions:
1. if you have to use VHS make sure the dub is reffed and recorded
with VITC. 2. You can also have LTC recorded to track two, although
you may get TC bleed in your dialog guide track (something my ADR
editor is bitchin' about right now). 3. Although my FX editor
digitizes Vid into his Soundscape system and my dialog editor
likewise into ProTools, I still use a 3/4" w/ a JVC deck converting
LTC to MTC via a Cooper PPS2 box (you could do the same thing with a
Pro 1/2" deck). Vegas loves that and syncs very tightly...so though
it isn't as sexy as the digi route and admitedly there is shuttle
time involved, it is still a reliable choice. 4. build your elements
by real and back em up!...your file sizes will be smaller and in case
of disaster you won't lose ALL your work. I know SOFO intended real
TV/Film work to be done with Vegas, I havn't seen anything on this
forum about how anyone is approaching it as a total solution, so I'd
love to hear from someone doing it 100% native, esp. the new CMX/EDL
