Can I turn off automatic generation of proxies?

Rich Parry wrote on 1/13/2024, 5:11 PM

I’ve completed multiple 2023 projects with hundreds of proxies, I will never edit the projects again and do not need the proxies. After deleting the proxies, I opened the project to make sure I didn’t break anything and found proxies were being created again.

VP21 B208 “Help” states “Proxy files are created automatically when working with 4K video”. Before I give up and learn to live with this, thought I’d see if anyone knows a way to get around the automatic generation of proxies. I know SSD and HDD are big and I shouldn’t be anal about this, nevertheless, humor me. I’ll consider this a “learning opportunity”.

Thanks in advance,

Rich

It's greater than 4K video these days. You can change the minimum resolutions to generate proxies in internal preferences (might still want them for 8K!)

@Rich Parry

Pick a number. Any Number.

Options, preferences, video:

You'll have to trigger proxy generation yourself, or reset the preference, when you need new proxies.

Thank you to all that replied and both solutions. I'm a little embarrassed, one of the solutions was staring me in the face.
