Can I Use Vegas As A Live Mixer?

Setup: Athlon 450Mhz, 64Meg memory, Gadget Labs Wave 8/24
sound card (8 inputs, 8 outputs).

Situation: I'm using Vegas to record a live musical
theatre performance from the soundboard. From the theater
soundboard I submix 5 tracks to the first 5 Wave 8/24
inputs: Stage mics, wireless mics, band, pit singers, and
ambient house mic. This works fine for recording a 5-track
show and doing a 2-track mixdown later. I'm happy with the
recording results.

I would like to take these 5 live feeds (channels 1 through
5 in Vegas) and do a live mix-down to the first two Wave
8/24 outputs (stereo bus 1 in Vegas). In other words, use
Vegas and the Wave 8/24 as a live 5 input, 2 bus mixer.
This is a one-time thing to feed an audio mix to the video
crew. Having Vegas recording at the same time is not
necessary.

I can "arm for record" in Vegas and see that all 5 input
channels are active, even when I'm not actually recording.
But my stereo output bus is dead, other than during
playback of pre-recorded material.

Is there a way to take the 5 armed-for-record channels and
route them directly to stereo bus 1 without having to
record and playback first?

Hope this made sense...

Vegas does not allow throughput (E-E) monitoring because of latency
issues. All throughput monitoring has to occur outside of Vegas in
the hardware itself.

So...In short...It won't work.

No, Vegas cannot do this. Vegas does not monitor the inputs back to
the outputs.
