Can not make a transition from clip to clip!

every time i try to drag to the time line a little circle-with-a-line-through-it wont let me add it. can someone please help!

What type of file are you trying to add to the timeline?

If you're new to Vegas, you might find the editing model a bit unfamiliar.

Take the two clips that you want to have a transition on and put them on the same track. Drag one so it overlaps with the other (with automatic crossfades turned on), and you should have a fad for the duration of the overlap. Drag a transition on to that crossfade and you will have a transition.
