Can open certain MP4s on my laptop but not on my desktop.

Hello. I have strange issue. I am unable to open some MP4 files on my laptop's install of Vegas Pro 14 but not on my desktop's installation. Both have default settings enabled. I am able to convert the MP4 files using handbrake into MP4s again and that seems to fix the issue on my desktop, but those conversions are not perfect and leave my contrast ratio messed up. I also would like to not have to convert a file every time I want to open it in Vegas. Any help or insight would be appreciated.
