Can record 24-bit in Sound Forge but not Vegas

Jason_Abbott wrote on 11/13/2002, 9:21 PM
The subject says it all. By "not" in Vegas I mean that if I set the project properties to 24-bit audio then recordings are completely silent--the meter is completely dead. I don't get any errors, just no sound. If I set it to 16-bit then everything works fine.

In Sound Forge I can record at 24-bit without trouble. The playback and record devices are set the same in both applications. I'm running Windows XP with a WamiRack 192X and all the latest drivers, patches, etc.

Why the different results?

I'm interested in getting the wamirack 192l. Besides this problem with Vegas, did you have any other problems ? Does the preamp sound good ?

Thanks,

Nat

No, I haven't had any other problems. I'm probably not the best one to answer your questions since I've only recently upgraded to this and a real mic from a SoundBlaster. I can say that the preamp works fine, but I'll defer to a more discriminating ear as regards the quality of the sound. You might find some useful specs and discussion here: http://audio.rightmark.org/.

Thanks a lot, I myself have a soundblaster so I guess i'll see some improvments :)

Did you test the card with Rightmark ?

I didn't. I saw some posts there from others who were testing this or the Waveterminal equivalent. I've been waiting to see their results.

I did some test recording through the mic input and it did sound very clean to my ear. I'm using an AKG 2000B that I found cheap for VO.

Great thanks, I'll try to find some tests for the 192l model, i'm curious to see if the soundquality is good or not since it uses sigmadelta converters.
