Can't add mp3 to media

goboo wrote on 6/4/2013, 8:26 PM
I can pull in most all video files and most other music/sound files, but I can't bring in mp3! I get the message "none of the files dropped in Movie Studio Platinum could be opened". I have tried re-booting, different codec packages, re-installing Movie Studio to no avail. Strange that this same Move Studio doesn't have this problem on my laptop. Both are 64bit. Anyone have a suggestion for this mp3 problem? Seems like it used to work ok.

Post the complete properties of your mp3 file using MediaInfo from Sourceforge.

Not any m3's can be accepted though if I convert to WMA, they can be dropped in!

Typical of many mp3's I have: Mediainfo...
MPEG audio version 1, layer 3 Joint stereo/MS stereo
128 Kbps, 44.1 KHz, 2 channels,

To use MediaInfo, you right-click on the file, and click on MediaInfo in the context menu.

That brings up a box with the complete file properties, as I requested.

Sorry, you still have not posted the complete audio properties as reported by MediaInfo.

MediaInfo is a free download from Sourceforge.

Hope you figure it out.

" I have tried re-booting,

That's a huge mistake on NLE systems, and I won't be able to help you troubleshoot that. A system recovery or fresh OS reinstall "may" be your only way out. Sorry, and best of luck.

READ my first post: I rebooted....I tried different codec packages...and I DID re-install the Sony MSP12 program entirely. And yet I don't recall this happening in the past with MSP12. And the program works fine with mp3 drops on my Samsung laptop. Both are 64 bit. Have you had seen anyone report this in the past? I did a general Google search also and others out there have had this kind problem with all kinds of A/V extensions...but I see no solutions posted; I was hoping from you experts, or other forum users.

No need to get touchy; I did read your post, and reinstalling Movie Studio will not get rid of registry changes made by installing noncompliant system codecs from third-party "packages." They are harder to get rid of than a case of bedbugs, and "may" be part of your problem. Maybe not. Sorry that I am unable to help your further; maybe someone will have more time to explore this problem in depth with you.

As an added redo, I just went back about a month and did a "windows restore point" to a previous date. This did not help. I'm unsure, as you seem to imply, that getting rid of bad system codecs is a tough problem. I'm not in for a complete Windows-7 OS re-install. I can always convert any mp3's needed to wma's...a nuisance. I was hoping someone had experienced the similar problem in the past and had a fix to offer.

Not implying anything. I'm stating that it can be a nightmare. Like lice. Hope your experience isn't that bad, however.

Looking at the properties you posted it looks like you're using a track that originally came from an Audio CD. I'd suggest that rather than converting the already lossy MP3 to another lossy WMA, that you should simply stick the original CD back in the drive and use Vegas import audio from CD function, which will give you an uncompressed WAV file with no quality loss at all.
