Can't burn DVD-R with DVDA3 on Sony 720A

Brief history - I've been burning DVD-R and DVD+R discs with DVDA1 for a couple of years on a Sony 510A burner with no problems. This week I upgraded to Vegas 6 and DVDA3, and started using the new version to burn my discs. I had no difficulties until this morning when my old burner appears to have given up the ghost. While attempting to burn a disc, I received an error that the drive had encountered an illegal instruction. From that point on, the drive would not respond to any attempt to access it.

I replaced the drive with a Sony 720A, and DVD+R discs burn fine, but DVD-R discs will not burn. DVDA recognizes the drive, and acts like it is wrting to it, but all it does is It churn for several minutes, and then it reports a media write error. However, I can take the same prepared files and burn them to DVD-R with CopyToDVD, and that works fine, so I know the drive is working. I also tried replacing the drive with an HP 640i drive, but the results were identical.

Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong?

I have the same drive, but haven't tried a DVD-R disc yet. You may want to get the latest firmware updates and try it again.

I do have the latest firmware. That was one of the first things I verified. I have no problem burning the discs with CopyToDVD or Nero, just with DVDA3.

This is exactly why I am scared to death to upgrade to Vegas 6+DVD because when I went from Vegas 4+DVD to Vegas 5+DVD, I had nothing but problems and I'm still digging myself out of the hole it put me in!

I have been having the same problem with both DVDA2 and DVDA3

I have a Sony DRU 700A and find that after burning the lead-in, the write fails, citing "corrupt media". I only use Verbatim or TDK DVD-R media.

However, I did manage to get 2 copies to burn at 4x but the result was VERY jittery footage.

Burning to Nero is no problem, but I should be able to do it reliably from DVDA.

I have burned over 200 dvds in the past month, so there is no excuse for this. I burned a dvd on Thursday night, but on Sat. everything when to pieces. I now have 9 coasters sitting here.
I feel that Sony should make this good. I also was able to burn the very same DVD with Nero with no problems, but as stated in previous post DVDA 3.0a should be able to burn as well.
