Can't capture analog. Device isn't recognized

I can capture in Studio 8 so I know my wires are O.K. When I try to capture in VF 1.0, it says "no device." I'm using the Canopus. I went to "video" and click Microsoft DV, but still nothing.

I'm almost positive that I did capture at one point. I've been through everything so may times, however, that I can't remember if I actually did capture with VF. Any suggestions?

If have VF 2.0 and occassionally have run into problems capturing analog footage with my Canopus ADVC-50. I go to capture and I just get a blank, black screen.

Usually, if I re-boot, it will start to work again, though the other day, rebooting still didn't work. I have also tried using Video Wave 5 in the past just to capture analog from the Canopus card. That usually works, but sometimes that doesn't even work.

I downloaded the 30-day trial version of Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2 last week and tried capturing with it, and, lo-and-behold it worked when VF 2 wouldn't! (Although there was no audio during capturing. But, the captured file did contain the audio.) I would suggest getting Ulead DVD MF 2 anyway for burning DVD's. It's the best package for the price. I have Version 1 and while it did it's job, it was limited in options and not very stable. So far, it appears these problems have been corrected in Version 2.

I have seen others post a similar problem with the Canopus card.

Until a permanent fix is offered by either Canopus or Video Factory, my only suggestion is to try capturing with another package.

Thanks for the suggestion. I can capture in Studio 8 (Pinnacle), but I KNOW people can capture with VF 2.0 and I just have to find out how. It's more of a "this video editing thing isn't going to beat me!!!" I've fought through so many issues that I just can't give up now. From what I've heard and read, VF 2.0 is the best when it comes to bug free. I won't rest until I find out how to fix it.

You're right -- VF is the best, most stable editing package (like you, I've tried many others), but the separate capturing application, in my opinion, leaves a lot to be desired and is not up to the same level of integrity as the editing portion. Sonic needs to put some effort in bringing the capturing application up to their same high standards as the editing application.
