Can't capture the video in Vegas 9.0

Hello guys,
I am completely new to Sony Vegas, so I apologize for this novice question.
I am trying to capture HDV 1080i video using my HDV camcorder and Fire Wire connection. I go to "capture video", computer detects the camcorder fine. When I click "play" button, camera starts rolling, but preview window stays black. It does not show actual video footage. When I click "record" button..nothing happens, camera keeps rolling, but window stays black and no footage is captured. Is there anything I need to change in properties?

Make sure the date is correct in the camera. Sometimes this creates problems.

Try going to OPTIONS / PREFERENCES / VIDEO (tab) and make sure the box that says "Use External Video Capture Applications" is checked. Until I did that, I had your experience trying to sync with my Canon HV20.
