Hi there! For some reason I can not edit mp4 video and import .m2ts on to Vegas Movie Studio 9.0c. When I import mp4 file into the time line there is only audio but no footage. And when I try to import .m2ts file it wont even let me. Wondering if anyone knows how to fix this problem?

Sorry if this question has been answered.

Thanks in advance.

Do you own Movie Studio, or Movie Studio Platinum? Maybe you need the HD-supported Platinum version for .m2ts support.

As for the MP4 problem, make sure you have Quicktime installed.

I only have Vegas Movie Studio HD 9.0c. And I do have Quicktime installed. The way I am editing mp4 and .m2ts is to render then to .WMV and then output them back to mp4 but the whole process takes even longer. Don't understand why I can't just import them straight to Vegas Move Studio HD 9.0c and just edit. hmmm...

I have Movie Studio HD installed here. Please shoot 2 small clips in MP4 and M2TS, they must be the exact format you claim that they don't work. Shoot *only* 3-4 seconds of each (random footage). I'm asking for so few seconds, so the files are small and easy to download. Then, upload the two files to a server, and send me the URLs to download them. I will then test them for you and see what's wrong with them.

I can confirm that Vegas HD/Platinum/Pro does not support correctly these files. The MP4 file has video but not audio, and that might be a recent well-known bug of the latest Quicktime. The M2TS file does not work at all, since it seems to be in an elementary stage, and Vegas doesn't support that kind of m2ts files. The AVCHD .m2ts files are not elementary, that's why they're working with Vegas.

So, you will have to re-encode in another format. WMV is *not* a good format for editing. I would highly suggest you go with either Cineform, or Avid DNxHD. Cineform costs $99, but DNxHD is free:

The filesizes will of course be huge, since these are intermediate codecs, but the upside is that you won't lose any quality at all. With WMV you're losing quality.
If you're doing this kind of editing with these formats only once, just download the 5-day trial of Cineform and complete your project within that timeframe. Cineform is faster to preview than DNxHD, you see.

Hey, thank you for all your help. I will try the way you have suggested. Again thank you for taking the time to help me out. Happy Holidays to you.

A bit of further information:
The MP4 opens fine in Vegas Pro 8.0c with Quicktime 7.6.
The transport stream can be opened and re-encoded in Super.

The MP4 does not show audio on my Vegas Pro 8.0c. Only video.

Super does not have support for a good intermediate codec, so I'd discourage using it. Just use Cineform or DNxHD.
