CAN'T FIND/OPEN MEDIA

I HAVE A NEW CANON VIXIA HF100 and have been trying to open the video files into VMS 6.0 (and for that fact into windows movie maker). I have placed the sd/hc card directly into the computer; sd/hc card into a usb reader; and by usb cable from camera to the computer. In Vegas I have opened both the windows explorer and vegas explorer and clicked on what I though were the appropriate drives. With the card directly in the computer I get the message "insert card" [both Vegas and Windows Movie Maker]. With the card in the usb reader I do get files but clicking them give me absolutely nothing. With usb cable from camera I get nothing. What can I do??? Anything will be helpful as I am an extreme novice.

Windows Media Maker and VMS 6 do not support the video format of this HD camera. You need the LATEST version of VMS 8.0d *Platinum* (or the upcoming 9.0 Platinum) to load these kinds of AVCHD files and edit them.

Eugenia is right. Also consider this: does your cardreader support the memory card you're using?

SD and SDHC cards and devices have these compatibility issues :

* Devices that do not specifically support SDHC do not recognize SDHC memory cards.
* Some manufacturers have produced 4 GB SD cards that conform to neither the SD2.0/SDHC spec nor existing SD devices. [19]
* File System: SD cards are typically formatted with the FAT16 file system, while SDHC cards are typically formatted as FAT32. [20] However, both types of cards can support other general-purpose filesystems, such as UFS2/ext2 for example.

I am planning for the HF100 too - if it is not too much trouble could you pls mail me a video sample made with the "25p cinema" settings? just a file of 5-6 MB??

I would, but until I receive the new software I can't download anything. Also see above post re possibility that my video card will not recognize sdhc.

Is there any way for me to tell if my cardreader will read sdhc, or is it when I can't open anything on the sdhc card? Let me add that I do have a Transcend sdhc/sd/mmc card reader where you slip in the sdhc card and then plug into usb slot - does this device "read" the sdhc? Thanks for any information.

You don't need a video card to recognize SDHC. You connect the camera via USB, and the PC sees the camera as an external drive. You can then drag n drop files from that drive to your PC.

Theese files are the videoclips and you just need a codec to see them - and as Eugenia wrote: that is in the newest VMSP / Vegas.

I'm beginning to understand. I had loaded Image Mixer 3se which came with the HF 100 and when clicked the files did come onto the three clips I have on my sdhc. After three times trying to open them, and each time having the program crash, I decided to entirely remove from computer. I was able to down load a video which I have been practicing on with Movie Studio 6 until the newest software is delivered. Thanks to everyone for all the help!
