Can't get Sound Forge to work with Vegas

I need to do some simple audio processing in Vegas 4--just a little EQ to roll off the low end. Vegas has only let me process two or three short clips of six or eight seconds and now I get a pop-up that says I'm out of memory and suggests I close some things to free up memory, but nothing is open but Vegas. This happens both when I open a copy of the clip in Sound Forge and when I use the audio FX built into Vegas. It does not clear up when I shut down and restart the computer.

I'm running Win2K on an AMD 1.4 with a Gig of ram, 74 Gigs free on the HD, and not much at all in the system tray.

Any ideas? I really need to finish this project ASAP.

Thanks,
Finster Glint

Sounds like a hardware or configuration problem. Vegas and/or Sound Forge can do that easily on lesser machines than yours. Any Win2k users care to consider it?

Sounds like a memory leak. Try updating your audio drivers and DirectX. You may need to re-install windows. I've found that after a while, windows just crapps out. I re-format about 1 time a year.

Does it happen on any project, or just this particular one?

Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions. I'll reload Windows and drivers tonight and see what happens.
