With Vegas 9 I had an project open earlier and imported and mp3 from one of my internal hard drives. Worked on the project for a while and then closed out.
Now, the project opens without the mp3 and I can't import ANY mp3s. An error occurs. Any suggestions?
.. when the project opens does it ask you to "locate" the missing media? .. Did you move this MP3 file on your internal drive?
Does the MP3 file still show up in project media? .. Can you see the MP3 on the timeline (even if it says media offline) ?
I can't import ANY mp3s. An error occurs.
This is strange. Can you add MP3 media to the project by using the explorer window? Can you add other media to the project?
Yikes...I think when I did originally restart the PC and open the project this afternoon it did say something about "locate" the missing media and I paid no attention to the pop up. That could be the problem?
I DID see the track highlighted while it said "media offline", and in my fumbling around I deleted the track and tried to reimport the song.
No, I cannot import any mp3s from my music drive. Not even via the explorer window. I can add video and JPEGs though. My video is stored on a 3rd drive dedicated for video while the JPEG I used is on my boot drive, with Vegas. The mp3s are on a seperate music drive--can Vegas not find this drive anymore? Why in the world would it have told me it was missing the media in the first place?
I may have to hire you as my technical advisor. =)
Here's how to search for a possible Vegas Backup of your lost project.
Open Vegas 9.
Close any projects that open automatically.
Go to File/Properties.
Look for the Prerendered File Folder.
This should be something like (yours will be different):
C:\Users\Paul\AppData\Local\Sony\Vegas Pro\9.0
Highlight and copy this path to the clipboard (CTRL-C will copy it)...Or write it down for reference.
Close the Project Properties window.
Do File/Open and paste in the (CTRL-V) path you just copied. Or key it in.
You should find some files in this folder with a tail of .BAK.
These are Vegas backup files which are made automatically by Vegas.
Try to open one that has "autosave" in the file name.
As you try to open this, you should get a chance again to enter the missing MP3 files location. If you do, you may be able to retrieve this project.
hmm...I get where you're going and I followed directions but I have no .BAK files there. Maybe because I've only had Vegas up about a week and I haven't really "saved" more than one or two files. It's pretty much been all test work with new projects.
Check to make sure Autosave is turned on.
Click Options/Preferences
In the General tab look for "Enable Autosave". Should be checked.
IF not, check it and click "apply".
Autosave saves the project every 5 minutes.
Vegas also makes a backup copy when you "save" the project. This is kept in the project folder. Look for the .bak files where ever you "saved" the project.
Close all projects.
Click Open.
Navigate to the project folder where you saved your ".veg" file.
Click on the "files of type" pull down window.
Select "all file types" (at the top)
Look for the .veg.bak file.
Open that file (if you find one)...There should be one if you ever saved the project after it was created.
