can't import QT video

I have a Dell laptop (Intel Duo Core) for work on which I just installed Vegas 6.

When I import Quicktime files into the timeline, only the audio comes through. However, Quicktime is installed on the computer, so I can play these files otherwise. Other media formats import into Vegas as they should.

How can I get the QT files to import properly? Am I missing some sort of plug-in or video card or something?

If so, how do I go about installing the fix?

When it comes to hardware specs, a lot of it is Greek to me, so thanks for plain English responses.

Thanks.

Vegas needs a complete QuickTime install, including the authoring components. A normal default QuickTime installation doesn't include this option. You will probably have to intall QuickTime again and make sure you include everything.

I have Quicktime Lite & it works with Vegas 8 no problem. But QT is a wrapper like AVI. For example, I need different codec's to run the stock footage that came free with vegas 8.

On my home desktop, I have "QT Lite" only, and do not have this problem. If its codec related, how do I go about finding the right codec, and installing it?

Problem solved.

I installed Vegas 7 on the laptop, and is able to import mov files perfectly. Must be something offered in V7 vs V6.

Thanks for everyone's input, tho.
