Can't import when file path is too long?

I'm presuming here, but when I try to import a PNG sequence from a long path, I get this error:

Warning: An error occured while opening one or more files. The item was not found.

File META:\Image Sequence\{C:\Documents and Settings\rcraig\My Documents\TAG\projects\pre and post rolls\movie and television related\time warner cable on demand\wild hogs\completed videos\wild-hogs-288x144\frames\wild-hogs-twc-national-288x144_000.png} (0) could not be opened.

I'm able to import other media from this path (the movie property has a shorter name), and if I move this folder so the path is shorter it works fine.

There is a limit to the length of a path in windows. It's long, but I think you hit it. You can make paths that long but some/all programs will choke trying to open the file.

I ran across this once on a website I maintain.

As I recall the maximum path length, including the file name, cannot be longer than 250 characters.

It appears to me that:

"C:\Documents and Settings\rcraig\My Documents"

should be replaced with:

"F:" (or some other separate hard drive letter)

I like keeping all my video/project related files OFF the "C" drive. Just moving them to a separate drive will also save you over 40 characters immediately as a nice side effect.

To me, the "C" drive is to hold the OS, OS related files, and installed programs. Other drives hold the important data.
