Can't Load WMV9 files

I have a bunch video I converted to WMV9. It plays just fine in the Windows Media Player, old mplayer and any other player I have but when I try to load it into Vegas 7 (or 6) it's almost complete garbage.

The audio comes across okay. The video you can kind of make out the pictures but it's all smeared and pixelated (clearly it's not decompressing the file correctly)

Is this a known problem? Is it my setup or a Vegas issue. Any known fixes or workarounds?

Thank you.

no.. not a known problem to me.. i constantly do web based presentations and have been asked to create content sourced from WMV (webcast compilations and the like)

Im running mediaplayer9... never had an issue

have u tried this in V6 WITHOUT v7 installed? V7 may have a stuffed up encoder, which has overwritten the initial enccoder code which V6 may be using..
I dont know... i havetn gone into the directory to find the encoder dll's and check their integrity and dates of installation... but u might need to doa system restore to find out if these really are different encoder codecs (ie v6 vs v7)
