Can't make a DVD after rendering in Vegas.

Have my first edited movie sitting in Vegas Studio. I clicked "make movie", and the movie was rendered. Problem is, when I move to Architect with the rendered movie and click "Burn DVD", Architect creates a DVD of an earlier test DVD *every time*.

Opening Architect independantly, I have absolutely NO IDEA where to find the created DVD from Vegas, let alone the file type. & I have a feeling that if I load up the mpeg file of the correct name, I'll end up with a movie with no sound!

Can anyone give me the sequence of events in making a DVD, after editing in Vegas PLEASE & ENORMOUS THANKS?!

Are you going straignt to "burn dvd", or are you selecting "prepare & burn"?

You must select "Prepare & burn" if your MPG2 file has changed, otherwise, DVD Architect defaults to burning the last thing it "prepared".

Also, make sure that the properties for your MPG file are correct - if you originally created it in one folder during an earler edit, and loaded that location into DVD Architect, then altered the location for a subsequent edit, DVD Architect will not know the file location has changed.

Sorry, I'm still confused.

Having clicked "Make Movie" in Vegas, the program then proceeds to render the movie within Vegas. This creates a file called "myfile.vf". If you then export this file to Architect and select "prepare and burn", Architect then proceeds to render the file a SECOND TIME. That can't be right.

I just can't figure how to do - what must be - one of the most elementary tasks of making a movie :-(

Vegas renders a mpeg2 file.
DVDA takes that file and creates the files used on a DVD. Look at a DVD with windows explorer. You won't find your mpeg file there. It has been changed into ifo and vob files that are read by DVD players.
So yes there is two "renders" involved.

The VF file you are referencing is not a rendered video - it is the project file, sort of a "container" with all your media elements.

When you "make movie", I assume you are creating an MPEG2 file. I personally select "save it to hard drive" when I do this. Once complete, I "make movie" a second time - this time I go to advanced options, select WAV format, then select the template 48,000 Hz, 16bit, Stereo, PCM. That will create a separate audio file, which I make sure is rendered to the same location as the MPG file.

In DVD Architect, I select the MPG and add it to my menu (if you are using a menu). With this MPG element selected, on the object tab on the right side of the screen, select the "modify" button next to the link information. There you will see selections for the video file, as well as audio. I think it will automatically select your WAV file if it sees it with the same name, but WAV extension. If not, select the WAV audio file.

Once this is done, select the file->Optimize DVD. Both the audio and video files should have green check marks next to them. This means that DVDA will NOT re-render the files. Without the WAV audio rendering step above, it would re-render.

It will, however, generate the proper folder and file names (ie, VIDEO_TS, Audio_TS) in a temporary location when you "prepare". On my computer, that defaulted to c:\Documents and Settings\....\Local Settings\Temp\MyDVD.

Once prepared, the files are burned to your DVD.
