Can't open .veg projects in Vegas 14

Fred wrote on 10/9/2016, 12:34 PM

Upgraded to Vegas 14 Build 161 64 bit.  My .veg projects now will not open, but they are fine when opened in Vegas 13 and in Vegas 12.  I am using a PC with Win 10 Pro.  About half way through opening the project, Vegas 14 gives error message "Your computer is low on memory", even though I have just restarted the computer (have 16 GB of RAM).

This is the biggest issue with VP14. See https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vp-14-win10-out-of-memory-problem--103767/

What kind of media is in your projects?

Thanks Nick - looks like the problem is almost universal.  I am using mostly .mts clips (hundreds of them).  The project is about half way through and is 42 minutes long.  I will continue to use Vegas 13 until Magix issues an update correcting the problem, and stop hunting for a solution myself.

Fred I investigated this problem and found that it was not VP13 project that was at fault, it was that the project was too large. Try importing a small VP13 project and it should work. I created a test project with only 19 clips in VP13 and could import it into VP 14. Larger projects crashed the program. I have made a ticket out for this. See my posting below.

Good observation Ross, but since most of my projects are large, VP14 is useless unless they fix this issue.

Hi, I have previously posted the following below on the link from Nick Hope given above, this was as a result of everyone looking for a workaround to justify using VP 14.

It would be reassuring to to get a comment from Magix that they are aware of the problem and working on a solution. Furthermore, on a smaller project where VP14  did not crash,  VP 14 loads a lot slower than 13, this was after the Vegas 13 project was saved with Vegas 14 and then re opened in Vegas 14.

Hi, I think one should stay with the facts! With vegas pro 13 one could load 300 clips> including FX's and transistions without any problems at an acceptable speed and very few people (if any) had problems! One was also able to run other programs in the background during rendering AVCHD!!!

With Vegas 14 pro, loading the same project is a lot slower and then crashes due to "Out of memory Error" with a lot of people, in addition it is not possible to run other programs in the background!!!

Conclusion: A new release should be an improvement on performance, or still be the same as the previous version but with additional features. One should not be forced to find all sorts of workarounds and be faced with deteriorated performance to utilize the product. VEGAS 14 PRO is not yet ready to be used in an production environment!
