Can't prepare using 23.976 or 24p MPEG without recompressing

If I create an MPEG file that contains 23.976 (or 24p) film or progressive material, it appears that DVDA will insist on recompressing this instead of simply setting the pulldown flag so that the DVD player will create pulldown during playback.

Is this correct?

Everything seems to work fine, and DVDA does NOT compress, if I create the MPEG file as "23.976 fps + 2-3 pulldown" in Vegas.

Yup, that's correct. DVDA does not add pulldown flags to 23.976 media. The source must already contain the pulldown flags.

Thanks. I came to this conclusion yesterday and changed my workflow to accomodate the way DVDA works. The project is finished now and works just fine.
