can't rewind dvd made in DVDA

jimingo wrote on 5/30/2006, 10:24 PM
Normally DVDs made in DVDA3 work just fine but I am making one with multiple angles, and when I play it back on either computer dvd players or desktop players, I can't rewind (backwards scan) through the DVD. I checked the Remote Button options in DVDA and Backwards Scan is turned on, but I stil can't rewind.

Can anyone help?
Thanks

If you use multiple MPEG files, then these are put into multiple titlesets. Once a DVD has multiple titlesets, no player that I know of can scan backwards. The solution is to use only one MPEG file; or, combine the multiple MPEG files outside of DVDA, using a product like Womble; or, put the multiple MPEG files into a Music Compilation inside of DVDA, which will combine them into one titleset.

Actually I bring them into DVDA as .avi files. Does that make a difference? I'm guessing not.
If I use womble, will I still be able to switch angles by pressing the angle button when watching the DVD?

If you use more than one AVI or MPEG or WMV or any other type of file, it doesn't make a difference.

Multiple video files = Multiple titlesets

unless you put them in a Music Compilation or unless you combine them prior to putting them into DVDA. Once you have multiple titlesets, you cannot use the fast reverse feature to scan (rewind) backwards. This is a limitation of the DVD architecture and specification, NOT a limitation in DVD Architect itself.

I don't think jimingo is making multiple titlesets. I think he's creating one titleset with multiple angles.

Yeah, I have video on four tracks. The main video is on the first track and the next three tracks are my multiple angle tracks. I did put a slideshow in my menu though...would a picture slideshow create another titleset?

Just stepping in for some clarification: When you say you can't scan backwards, do you mean that you can't scan backwards into a previous item (titleset) or that you can't scan backwards at all (for example, even within a single item)?

I think what John is referring to is the (in)ability to scan into a previous item.

Yup, that's what I meant.

I don't know. I haven't built a multi-angle project. However, you can answer your own question. Look at the VTS*.VOB files. If you only have VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB etc. then you have only one titleset. If you also have VTS_02_1.VOB, VTS_02_2.VOB etc., then you have two titlesets, and so on.

Thanks,
I've got 2 titlesets.
But I don't me that I can't scan back into another titleset...I mean that I can't rewind within a single titleset. Like when you hit rewind on a VCR to replay something.

mean that I can't rewind within a single titleset.

I don't have an answer for that.

I guess it's some kind of bug then

Thanks anyway

Here's an update.

I didn't change any of my settings in DVDA but I reprepared the DVD and now I can backwards scan.

Weird.

Maybe you had a bad disc?

Not related to DVDA: I've had some odd experiences with Divx-based discs in a Divx player I have, where some discs will let me scan and some will not. Still have't figured that out.
