Can't set burn speed - Pioneer A05

jeremyk wrote on 7/15/2003, 4:01 PM
With DVDA 1.0c, build 203, and Pioneer A05, firmware 1.33, the burn rate I select is ignored. On Fujifilm DVD-R media, nominally 4x, it takes about 8 1/2 minutes to burn a 26 minute DVD, regardless of the burn speed I select. Makes no difference whether I select the speed before or after inserting the disc into the drive.

Anyone else seen this? Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jeremy

I get the same thing with my Pioneer A04, when I use 2x media and want to burn at 2x.
DVD-A doesn't allow me to do that.

Ditto with my Pioneer A03. DVDA does not allow 2x burning with 2x media. I burn with the PrimoDVD program that came with the Pioneer burner instead.

I just burned a 23 min long program in about 8 mins.

Drive is AO3, burn speed was at 1x and was not adjustable.

Most dvd burner apps seem to set the write speed by taking a look at the blank dvd-r and deciding what it is capable of.

This is certainly the case with Nero which determines the highest record speed no matter what the manufacturer claims and greys out all other speeds.

Which means, for example, that I won't be buying any more Samsung 2x dvd-rs any time soon since they max at 1x on both my A03 and 05.

There's also a firmware patch, 1.33, for the A05 which 'improves recording reliability' among other things which Pioneer released before moving on to the 06.
