Can't update to 7.0c

Bteam wrote on 12/18/2006, 12:52 PM
When I try to install 7.0c when extracting the file external.cab I get the error message "Please make sure you have local system administrator privileges on this system. Cancelling the installation." Then the installation fails.

I am the only user of this PC and its administrator. I downloaded the file onto a USB flash drive and copied it to this computer. I've stopped the anti-virus software and firewall. I've successfully installed the update on another PC.

Any other suggestions on how to install the new version? I've received no response from Tech Support though I sent this message 3 days ago.

I had the same problem and turning off both my antivirus and spyware software solved the problem for me.

Try closing all the TSR's down in your Sytem Tray (bottom right).

If you still don't have any luck go to Start select 'run...' and type in 'msconfig' select the 'Startup' tab and disbale (uncheck) any items that you can safely do without then reboot the computer and try the reinstall again.

I didn't have to do the last step but it's also a way to get rid of annoying startup programs you no longer want to start with Windows.

Hope this is of some help.

I've gotten in the habit of always uninstalling old version, then install updated one. I just completed that process for Vegas 7c with no problem.

Don't know if that's causing the problem with adminstrator message, maybe copy the file from your USB device onto a hard drive on your system, and install from there . .

Good luck,

Thanks,

I've tried stopping the anti-virus etc and using msconfig but I still can't load 7.0c.

Strange because this is a relatively new PC and I installed 7.0B easily only 2 weeks ago.

I'm reluctant to do a clean install in case I have no vegas at all.

It might be a XP issue but I don't know where to look.

Sorted...
Downloaded 7.0c again and it installed OK. Very strange because I had installed it on 2 other PCs with no trouble.

Onto getting something productive done.

Don't leave your laptop in a cab.

Are you running Internet Explorer 7 (the new version) I've unistalled the desktop search function as it was causing me grief with other apps.
Again I'd suggest you turn off/exit everything you don't need in the system tray, right click and exit them, while you do the install then reboot.

I've never uninstalled Vegas to do an upgrade and I've been running it since V4.

These days I'm running V7 on a Mac Pro in WinXP under Boot Camp.

If thturning off TSRs still doesn't work you may need to use run... regedt32 NOTE NOT regedit but regedt32.
Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Sony Media Software/Vegas/7.0 in the left window. You do this by opening each +folder as per the Explorer.
In the right window select (Default) by clicking on it once so it's highlighted, then go to the Edit menu and edit Permissions.
In the Security Dialogue box select your login name from the list and tick the check box for Full Control and Read click Apply and OK then Exit the program and try your install again.

I can't be certain it will work but I've used this method before with faulty installs on other Apps and it fixed the problem.

Let me know if it works.
