Can't use "export to DV tape" with DAC-100

I'm using Videofactory 2.0, a Dell Inspiron 2650 with a IOGear 3 port PCMCIA firewire card, and trying to "export to DV tape" to videotape via my Datavideo DAC-100 conversion box. I'm not getting anything but wierd digital flickers.

It works fine on my Gateway 600 that has built-in 1394, and it also works fine when I use the IOGear PCMCIA firewire card. Everything is exactly the same setup, but the Dell doesn't seem to want me to succeed. Any suggestions? --Marty

Seriously, do a search for "Dell 8000". Apparently, the Firewire ports on Dell laptops have lots of issues. I'm sure Grazie or Grob will chime in and elaborate on the problems they had getting their Dells to work.

Jeez, I've whined so much about my Dell 1394 . . . On my Dell Inspiron 8K, I have a Belkin 2-port PCMCIA card adaptor out to a Maxtor 120GB drive to supplement my single built-in 1394 PCI. The Dell-supplied 1394 will capture, but cannot and will not output despite multiple episodes and severe cursing.

My workaround -- the PCM card doesn't appear capable of the data flow(s) required to PTT directly from the Maxtor back out to the camcorder. I render .avi to the Maxtor for storage. Copy the render back to C drive and PTT back out through the Belkin PCMCCIA via their 6-pin to 4-pin 1394 adaptor cable. Then delete the copy. It's a bit tedious, but it delivers a clean product. I'll take that unDell ;) my next upgrade (which will not be Dell).
