Can't View MP4s in Vegas

djmt wrote on 1/14/2009, 8:31 PM
I just purchased Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum. When I try to play MP4 files within the software, green and other colored pixels randomly appear over portions of the screen and the video skips and is "jerky"? I can watch the same MP4s in Quicktime with no problem. VMS9 says it supports MP4.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this?

I think Vegas supports mp4 in that it allows to render to that format, not to edit that format, but I'm not 100% sure about this.

mp4 is not always mp4.
I.e. I bought a camera (Samsung) that made mp4 according to specifications - but I could not import video from it.
So I bought another (also recording in mp4) and here there were no problems.
Maybe you could upgrade your codecs by getting the free K-Lite codec pack and see if it has a codec that Vegas can use for importing your type of mp4.

Thanks for the replies. I tried importing K-Lite and it didn't help. Do I have to do anything special for Vegas to make use of the codecs or should Vegas be able to make use of the codecs as long as they're installed on my machine?

you may want to try searching for mpeg4 or mp4 in the vegas pro forum also.
