Can this Pictute in Picture be done?

If it's possible I would like to do a special picture in picture effect. I can easily create a standard PIP. What I would like to do is have the PIP play for a few seconds & then have is slowly dissapear gradualy but not to just fade away all at once but rather have it fade away from left to right. In other words the clip that forms the PIP would have to have it's transparency gradually changed over time but done in such a way as to fade from one side to the other. Can this be done?

Yes it can. Probably the simplest method I can think if is using a graduated picture (from black left to white right) and using the Luminence filter written by SDMoore. If you don't mind spending the money, Pixelan Spice Master should also be able to handle this effect.

Of course.
On timeline:
track #1: Your actual picture that's "in" picture. Effect: cookie cutter
track #2: Your "full framed" picture.

You use Pan/Crop on track #1 and zoom out to get your clip "shrinked" so it gets "into" the track #2 picture. You place it where you want (by dragging).
The Cookie cutter will be keyed to wipe out your track#1 from the overall picture. You can choose "rectangle" and wipe from left to right (or vice versa...) by dragging the square in the Cookie cutter window. Use the Feather parameter to get your "fade out" effect; put a lot of it. Experiment with parameters if you want but the actual default rectangle is so big that you'll only use one of its sides to use as a "fade curtain". Oh yeah, in cookie cutter window : parameter Method=cut away all but section.

You can even use a circle and do the iris classic effect by playing with the size of the circle in the cookie cutter (from "big" to "inexistant")... or use the arrow head, some oval, a square, etc... ;)

Parent your PIP track to a black-and-white gradient. You can manipulate the gradient via keyframes for the effect. I'm still fairly new to Vegas and was able to achieve the the effect you describe in just a few minutes. Send me an e-mail at jonmcp@aol.com and I'll send you the VEG.

You could also bring in the fade-out handle from the upper-right of the event, and add a Liner Wipe transition to it.
