can transitions only happen on the same track?

i'm putting together a video from a vacation that consists of video and digital photos. i would like all the video on one track and photos on another. problem is, i can't seem to get transitions to work using 2 tracks. maybe this is not possible?

also, every time i open the project, it generates all the thumbnails each time for the media pool and timeline. is there a way to have my project "remember" these?

thanks.

typos in searches didn't help me before i posted. looks like i found the answer here:

what about my second question for the thumbnails?

I don't understand the question. Vegas is "remembering" which is why you see the thumbnails when you open the project again. If you're asking why doesn't Vegas store the thumbnails so they would display faster like in a little database, I think the reason why not is editing videos is generally tranisatory so little point it keeping them long term.

What maybe slowing down th process is the size and type of stills you are using. Had much the same problem some time ago when I put 12 or so 13 MBytes tiffs on the TL. I ended up converting them at half the resolution to PNG and VV ran much smoother.

Now I doubt your holiday snaps are that huge and if you are going to do any pan or crop you need to keep the res up as well and going through them all in PS to convert to PNG would take a lot of time so I'd just live with it.

One day I'll work out how to make PS do a batch convert and then these tasks will be a snap.

Good point re the image sizes...

And.... photoshop does allow you to create "actions" (such as change image size / save as png) that can be applied to a whole folder of images. It might be easier than you imagine (although I must admit that I HATE the way the Adobe does the help file on WIndows. and I think that is often a barrier to me figuring more of this stuff out).

the JPGs are currently 2560x1920. i'll create a droplet (action) in photoshop to reduce the size to 1440x1080 and save as PNG. shouldn't that allow me to crop at 2X and not lose any detail?
