can VMS 9 use a divx codec for an AVI file?

You just install the DivX decoder from the DivX site. However, if the files are XViD and not DivX, it's better to just install the freeware XViD codec: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Koepi_XviD.htm

try the one from divx then, just the normal package they have there.
