~this is more of a PC question. for those of us who have the DVD burner built into our computers as opposed to a seperate machine, i'd like to know if it is possible to set the record mode that allows the DVD to hold more data, e.g.:

XP - 60mins.
SP - 120 mins.
LP - 180 mins.

i have an HP Pavillion. anyone know how to change the record mode of the DVD burner?

thanks!

All you can do is reduce the bitrate, which effectively does what you're looking for, but no, there isn't anything that you can set that will "extend" the recording time. The DVD 5 (normal DVD) will hold 4.7GB of information. You can put high bitrate media on it and hold less, or put low bitrate media on it and hold more. To put it differently, imagine a quart jug. You can put say....20 pingpong balls in it (high bitrate) or you can put 2000 BB's in it (low bitrate), but the size of the jug doesn't change.

~thanks DSE. i started a new thread on optimizing bit-rate (optimizing bit-rate: what's effected?) in the DVDA forum. please comment.
