the phrase 'rtfm' springs to mind, or failing that search 'tf' forum....

or course first you have to 'btfs'

Just put your cursor at the end or beginning of a clip in the upper corner till you get the little quarter circle icon, then click and drag to add the fade in and out.

For the text, just put the text on a video track above your video and make the background for the text transparent. IF you use the default text tool the background is already set to transparent. The one that says Sample Text with the checkerboard pattern behind it.

The fading went well. Is there a way where I can make clips fade in/out from white? And how do I make the text background transparent? I tried here: http://img20.photobucket.com/albums/v59/MetalMilitia/1.jpg

Are you putting the text on a separate track above the video track? This will overlay it. If you put it on the same track as the video then it will replace the video.

Just put a solid white background on a track below your video track, then when it fades it will go to white not black.

Looking at your Jpg it looks like the text background should be transparent, it's the slider on the right for the background color. If you have that all the way down then the background should be transparent.

I agree with all who suggest consulting the manual. You might consider printing the manual, too. For about $25 Kinko will print and bind the document -- all 300+ pages of it -- so that you have something to annotate, cross reference in the Index, etc. Something to read while in the biffy, too.

Also, I've found that printing threads that appear here on the bulletin board, indexing them and putting them into a loose-leaf binder provides an added dimension to the manual.

I agree with Jack.

I have come across some very intersting and though provoking threads (and have picked up a great deal of knowledge that just isn't in the manuals). But that is to say, that I have read the manual cover to cover....a few times.

The manual has a great deal of information (and in my opinion...very easy to follow). It's always a good idea to run through the manual (or the help section in the software first). Most all of the questions I've seen posted are in the manual (in one form or fashion).

"T"imeout chaps . .please . ..

Okay, okay, okay . . .. I think this is not about "where" do I find out about Fade in and FAde outs . . nope . .I think this is about a new "friend" having done the logical step to aquaint himself with FXs and expecting to see, fades etc, there - yeah?

I'm really not trying to be "the nice" guy here . .but oft from the lips of babes . . .etc etc etc . . yeah?

Maybe, just maybe a "new" set of eyes can sometimes - often - bring about realizations that we "knowledgable" ones have left .. long long ago . . It is here that "new" approaches can often be "squinted" at through the other end of the telescope . .. like out of focus ideas . .yeah?

So, my plea is that sometimes - just sometimes - awarenesses are borne out of a lack of knowledge. Oh yes, I might agree, this may not be one of those occasions, but yah never know chums!

. . .oh, and yes, I think you all treated the enquiry with not a little respect and dignity . ..

This was by way of a "side-bar" - hope you don't mind?

I love it when newbies get the treated like Jack A's when asking what are simple and obvious questions to those of us who have been using the softare for years.

To me, those of you with your "RTFM" replies are worse than the poster who asks obvious questions.

Maybe he/she isn't a good reader - maybe he/she spent his/her last $25 and can't afford or get to a place that can print out the manual.

Maybe there is a language problem - and just maybe he/she has actually purchased a bonafide copy of the FS and isn't a crook as intimated by one respondent here.

I say, either answer the question or ignore it and move on. I was new at this once, myself, and I learned a lot more about the software here than I did reading the manual.

Whether you wise guys realize it or not, signing onto this forum and perusing it for info and (God forbid) asking questions takes some effort and is a legitimate way to learn the software, just as legitimate as reading the manual.

Reading your post makes me feel like I graduated from a vegas class or something... play with the program and see what happens. Who knows, maybe you'll be able to learn how to crop and pan by the end of next year.
