can you keyframe opacity?

I'm needing to vary the opacity of a clip...specifically, start at 100% - down to 50% - up to 70% - back up to 100%. Is it possible to do this WITHOUT spliting the clip up? Seems like I should just be able to add key frames to the opacity bar...but can't seem to find that option. Anyone know if key framing opacity is possible?

Thanks!

Sort of. On the track control pane, right click and select, "Insert Composite Envelope." A blue line will appear on the top of the video track. Double click this blue line, a handle or knob appears. Pull this knob down, and you will see the opacity reduce. Use as many handles/knobs as you need to in order to create the in/out levels of opacity.
