Can you lock tracks?

Is there any way to easily lock all the events on a track? I recently had this setup:

1. Bunch of stills in track 1
2. Text, other stills, what-not in tracks 2-5
3. Video in track 6

I wanted to cut out part of the video in track 6, and I wanted auto-ripple on so that tracks 2-6 rippled, but NOT track 1. I could lock individual events in track 1, but there doesn't seem to be a way to lock down the track, a la Final Cut Pro. I can Select Events to End, then do Lock, and get 'em, but it seems somewhat cumbersome. I guess I'm thinking that along with Mute and Solo a Lock button would be nice.

This has been talked about in the past by myself on others. The short answer is "no there isn't."

However more detailed is you need to tell the ripple what to do and it won't do what you are describing. It will do all tracks or only the track you are on. You have option to move all events or all events, regions and markers. You can "lock" tracks, but it is not as easy as, IMO, you can in Premiere. Vegas has a sync issue if you aren't careful and that does tie into this issue, they do go hand in hand. For me working in Premiere is better for this - if I want to keep certian tracks in place all I have to do is click the little padlock icon on those tracks. And this ties into sync because in Vegas when you make a cut the first part of audio and video stay "locked" but the rest doesn't, again IMO, Premiere handles this better. So with Vegas if you grab onto the video to move it, the audio stays in place if you aren't careful. (Likewise bring in picture and try to just click on audio and hit delete - it can be a bitch to do only this unless you check several settings.) So in Vegas you sort of need to group both audio and video and "lock" them. (And this also ties into the whole nested timeline discussion with Vegas)

Like you say - "I can Select Events to End, then do Lock, and get 'em, but it seems somewhat cumbersome." And I think more than you and I would agree with that comment, especially when you tie it into the sync and "grouping" issues.

I agree too - even back in my (bad old) Pinnacle Studio 7 days I could do this!
