Can you move Sapphire plugins to a new version of VEGAS?

FireFoxHunter wrote on 11/22/2023, 2:28 AM

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but here we go.

I'm kind of new to plugins and was looking to buy a perpetual license of sapphire. I'm currently using Vegas Pro 18, but I am looking to upgrade to Vegas Pro 21 in the near future. Now I was wondering if I put the plugins and license key into my 18 version, would that make it unable to work on the 21 version in the future?

I couldn't really find anything about this subject online so that's why I'm trying here.

Though I don't have Sapphire, it should be the same as other BorisFX products such as Continuum and Mocha Pro. The OFX versions of these 2 products provide a licence for your computer - not the NLE. I've got quite a number of Vegas Pro Versions (19, 20 and 21) installed and Continuum as well as Mocha Pro appear in all three Vegas Pro versions as wellas in DaVinci Resolve and other miscellaneous NLEs as well.

Cameras: Sony FDR-AX100E; GoPro Hero 11 Black Creator Edition

Installed: Vegas Pro 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 & 22, HitFilm Pro 2021.3, DaVinci Resolve Studio 19.0.3, BCC 2025, Mocha Pro 2025.0, NBFX TotalFX 7, Neat NR, DVD Architect 6.0, MAGIX Travel Maps, Sound Forge Pro 16, SpectraLayers Pro 11, iZotope RX11 Advanced and many other iZ plugins, Vegasaur 4.0

Windows 11

Dell Alienware Aurora 11:

10th Gen Intel i9 10900KF - 10 cores (20 threads) - 3.7 to 5.3 GHz

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER 8GB GDDR6 - liquid cooled

64GB RAM - Dual Channel HyperX FURY DDR4 XMP at 3200MHz

C drive: 2TB Samsung 990 PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 PCIe SSD

D: drive: 4TB Samsung 870 SATA SSD (used for media for editing current projects)

E: drive: 2TB Samsung 870 SATA SSD

F: drive: 6TB WD 7200 rpm Black HDD 3.5"

Dell Ultrasharp 32" 4K Color Calibrated Monitor

I have a perpetual licence for all Boris products, they show in each version of Vegas as it's been updated, a perpetual licence in simple terms means you'll get updates for a yr but it's yours to keep forever & will show in any host editor you have that supports OFX plugins regardless of the plugin or host version,

My version of Sapphire is 2022.5 so it's out of date now, it still shows in the latest Vegas 187 though, I let the renewal slide partly because I couldn't afford the Sapphire renewal at that time but also I found Vegas (VP20 I think it was) didn't like them too much, they're more intensive then Continuum & they sometimes slowed the timeline down or caused crashes, but also because I have Silhouette that incs Sapphire in it's effects list, I didn't see the point in renewing something that was a bit 'grumpy' in Vegas when it worked perfectly well in Silhouette & the price was the same/similar for the renewal of Silhouette vs Sapphire,

I'm prob going to renew Sapphire one day, Vegas is getting better & I'm sure the integration with Sapphire is better now & will get even better in time.

------------

PS, the latest version of Sapphire is 2024.0, the version in my Silhouette is 2023.53, it's always a version behind & updated to the latest version with each Silhouette update, but it's always on catch-up because there's always a new Sapphire update 🤸‍♂️🏃‍♂️

--------------

PPS, sorry I forgot to say, although Silhouette is a plugin &/or a standalone version so it does open from Vegas, Sapphire is only in the Standalone version of Silhouette, therefore initial purchase would be expensive & poss not an affordable option.

Boris FX is a generous plug-in manufacturer. Their OFX plug-ins allow you to run them in all versions of Vegas Pro even Resolve and Nuke, as long as Vegas Team does not introduce new OFX system bugs in the new version.

Plug-in manufacturers like NeatVideo split Vegas and Resolve from the general OFX plug-in so that they can make more money.

@FireFoxHunter If you're considering purchasing from Boris use the little chat window bottom right on the Boris web page, that's how i've bought all mine & ask for their 'best price' 👍😊 I got through to Neal who's in Boston US so there might be a 9-5pm working time of day that's best for him, , He sent emails, purchase details & then activation key/s almost immediately 👍
